Les Arts des Hauts

All the versions of this article: [English] [français]

Set up in 2004 as part of Rouen’s Great City Project (Grand Projet de Ville, GPV), Arts des Hauts is a two day street-arts festival involving artists, musicians and local residents.

Every year, during the last weekend of August, the Place du Châtelet turns into a ’guinguette’* and becomes Rouen’s most beautiful cabaret for the weekend. Street-theatre companies, contemporary circus, pyrotechnics walkabout, food from around the world prepared by local women’s groups...’Les Hauts’, a Council estate, puts a great spread to celebrate the end of summer in great style. Another feature of the event is that the euro is replaced by the festival’s ’official’ money, the ’dosh’.

Programmed by Daniel Andrieu, Atelier 231’s Director, the festival involves around 5 companies and is attended by about 3,500 people in average every year.

2010 edition

For its 7th edition, and as part of the ZEPA network, Atelier 231 chose to invite French company 3 Points de Suspensions with their show Journey to the edge of the end of the world.

*’Guinguette’ is a community cabaret/ball originated from Paris suburbs.
