Nofitstate company was born in 1986 on the initiative of 5 students fascinated by the circus. They created a small circus school, without particular training in this field, and therefore, revitalized an artistic community around circus arts with outdoor interventions, in sheds, and some shows. The first collaborations were made with the Opera of Wales.
In 1995, after their meeting with Firenza Guidi, their work turned to the interactive artistic practices. It is the working style which places the public “outside banches” to make them participate. This artistic objective will remain a constant in their creation. And then after a 3-week residence, we were able to discover during 3 evenings, on March 25th, 26th and 27th, 2010, the new shape of Tabù at the Cirque d’Amiens.
In 1997, thanks to the helps brought by the National Lottery of Great Britain, they setted up Laboratories of creations with as main objective the local community’s participation. On the artistic level, they worked on multidisciplinarity (video, plastic arts, dance, music).
In 2004, they presented their first big show entitled Immortal stemming from their work of creation-research. Created under a marquee without banch, this show involving 40 to 60 artists encountered a very beautiful success. It was presented at the festival of Auch in 2004. Then, the project Tabù was born in 2008 (show peformed in London on April 2009, Avignon, on July 2009 and in Amiens on March 2010).
As the work on circassian creation kept on, another dynamics around street arts was developed by Ali Williams and Orit Azaz. For the ZEPA project, they met, together with Mathilde Vautier, our 8 French and English partners during 2 weeks. In Amiens, we had the pleasure to make them discover our city and therefore to share privileged moments with them.
A first step of this work around street arts-circus will be presented in Brighton on May 23rd of this year with our friends of the Brighton Festival and the Park life project.
